The surroundings of our Résidence are very varied. The park is located in Salles (with 6,500 inhabitants) in the middle of the largest forest area in Europe. Salles is located in the Parc Naturel Régional des Landes de Cascogne and partly because of this the air is very clean. Special paths in the woods are good for walking and cycling, but there are also great cycle paths up to the coast.
Salles is a pleasant town on the river L ’Eyre, with the possibility of canoeing almost to the Bassin of Arcachon. There are restauratns, supermarkets, bakers and various other shops. Although Salles is small you will find pharmacies, doctors, dentists and physiotherapists. There is even an indoor swimming pool with wellness facilities.
35 km west is the Atlantic west coast on the Gulf of Biscaje. It is famous for its high waves and therefore very popular with surfers. Dune du Pilat, the highest dune in Europe, is also located on this coast, making it very suitable for paragliding. Arcachon is a modern seaside resort on the beautiful Basin of Arcachon where you can stroll along the boulevard or shop in the pleasant shopping streets around a square with terraces and a covered market.
About halfway the coast you will find two very beautiful lakes: Lake Sanquinet and Biscarosse with sandy beaches and many water sports options, such as (wind and kite) surfing and sailing. But the lake is also very safe at both Sanquinet and Biscarosse to swim with small children, because the water at the beaches remains shallow for the first tens of meters.
At 30 km east and 35 km north lie the wine regions of Graves and Medoc respectively with a completely different landscape. This area is hilly and there are many beautiful views of vineyards and their castles.
